How to protect your computer from viruses and malware?

Computers are an incredible invention that changed the world. We use a variety of internet-connected devices for information, banking activities, to stay connected with our friends and for other activities. These devices contain our personal information such as financial records, medical data etc. However, these devices are highly prone to viruses and malware that are capable of damaging valuable information. Also, fraudsters can access your details. Here are some safety measures that can protect your devices against malware.

Install An Antivirus software

Antivirus software scans the existing files and also verifies the incoming emails for viruses. They are programmed to delete the malicious files. Proper removal of viruses will prevent your devices from slowing down and crashing. Be careful to verify that your software is continuously scanning the devices for viruses. Thorough scanning should be done at least twice a month.

Backups

Sometimes the antivirus software is unable to delete some malware. In such cases formatting the hard drives is the only way to remove the malware. This will lead to data loss. Therefore always keep a backup of your important data. Online storage, external hard drives and cloud storages are the basic options available for backups.

Software Updating

Most of the operating systems receive updates that enhance the security measures to keep computers safe from the latest viruses. Microsoft, Apple and oracle usually update their software to fix the existing bugs. Make sure that you notify the updates and install the latest versions.

Strong Passwords

Always use strong passwords with letters, numbers and symbols. Common passwords for eg; 123456 can be easily hacked by the attackers. Avoid using the same usernames and passwords for different sites. Be careful to create passwords with eight or more characters

Keeping your computers free of the virus is an easy task. Stay cautious while you are browsing and be aware of malware signs. Do not click on suspicious links that are from an unknown source. Only choose reputed online shopping sites as you need to provide your credit card details. In case of extreme malware issues, get in touch with companies that provide virus removal services.
